CoolSculpting® | body fat reduction

Cryolipolysis
CoolSculpting®, also known as Cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical fat reduction treatment. It is an innovative way to contour the body by freezing unwanted fat. The treatment is performed during a relatively short in office appointment and requires minimal downtime.

CoolSculpting® is a noninvasive fat reduction procedure that involves no anesthesia, needles, or incisions. It is based on the principle of cooling subcutaneous fat to the point that the fat cells are destroyed by the cooling process and absorbed by the body. Subcutaneous fat is the layer of fat just under the skin.  CoolSculpting® treatments allow patients to transform their body shape and remove unwanted fat.

CoolSculpting® is a treatment that should only be performed by reputable and experienced professionals with years of hands-on experience working with patients seeking to enhance their bodies.

procedure

CoolSculpting® treatments are typically performed in office in a 60-180-minute session depending on the treatment areas. Most patients will work on their laptop or watch films on their devices during this time. The procedure is performed with a handheld applicator, which look similar to the nozzles of a vacuum cleaner. During the treatment, the skin will be prepped with a gel pad (which protects the skin from frost bite) and applicator will be placed on top. Multiple areas can be addressed simultaneously in one visit. It is common to experience some feelings of pulling, tingling, aching, and pinching during the first five minutes of treatment, but overall the procedure involves minimal pain. The treated areas are massaged immediately after treatment to breakup any frozen deep tissue, which can be quite uncomfortable. However, this will help your body to absorb the destroyed fat cells. If the procedure is too uncomfortable then there is an option to use Pronox to help with pain management, but this is often not necessary. A consultation is offered for the initial appointment. While it's possible that you could receive treatment on the same day as your consultation, it's more probable that you will need to arrange a separate appointment for your treatment.

recovery

The recovery time after a CoolSculpting® procedure is relatively short. Most patients are approved to resume normal day-to-day activity immediately after. Generally minor redness, soreness, bruising, and swelling may occur immediately in the area treated, but will typically subside within a few weeks.

Other common side effects post-procedure include tenderness, aching, cramping, as well as skin sensitivities like tingling, numbness, and itching.

For 2-3 weeks post treatment, it is important to drink a minimum of 2-3 litres of water throughout the day and to maintain a higher fibre diet, while reducing your sodium and sugar intake as much as possible. Wearing tighter clothing around the area can help reduce the side effects of swelling. You can perform slight massage to the area to help with any numbness you may be experiencing. It is important not toconsume any alcohol for one week post treatment.

Results in the treated areas may be noticeable within three weeks of the procedure. Most patients can see up to 20-28% in fat reduction following their initial treatment, but typically results are reached after two or three months, and the fat-flushing process continues for up to six months after the initial treatment. Some patients do treat the same area a second time for more fat reduction, however further treatment is usually only necessary if you want to target a different area.
